This collection became possible when Avataq Cultural Institute brought 100 of Canada’s Top throat singers to Puvirnituq, Nunavik for the first throat singers’ gathering in September 2001.
The conference was the start of a concerted effort to preserve traditional and modern Canadian Inuit throat singing and will lead to the formation of the Canadian Inuit Throatsingers Association.Inuit women travel worldwide to entertain in a vocal style unique to Inuit culture.
